Over lunch on Sunday Papa Joe and I discussed the pastor's sermon. He is doing a series on getting engaged in service. He has painted wonderful word pictures of why and how and when. He is a gifted speaker and yet at the end of the day I wonder if he would just like to say.................................
I love the fellowship and inspiration of small group Bible study. Most of the time we're on the same page and it is comforting to have the right answer in a group of people who are touching the same part of the elephant as me.
Saved -- check
Dependant on grace -- check
Assured of eternal salvation -- check
But there comes a day when all of that knowledge sours like yeast dough if it isn't put in the oven and baked into something delicious.
The oven is this hurting world and the temperature is provided by stepping out of my comfortable neighborhood and into a sea of needs.
Joe sidetracked his lucrative business to help poor people have the security and shelter of their own home. I am serving the disenfranchised in my own ways .
Our service has been what has taken our predictable life to an exciting and sometimes risky adventure.
As we look at our final act we wonder what new thing the Lord has for us? We will stick our noses in our Bibles long enough to hear His marching orders and comfort but then I hope we can endeavor to "Serve!"

And what does the LORD require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God.
